Slight color variation between batches of color-glazed ceramic tableware is relatively common. The final color depends not only on the pigment, but also on the ceramic body color, glaze concentration, application thickness, firing temperature, soaking time, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Even with the same glaze formula, differences in heat exposure or glaze thickness may change the shade, brightness, or local tone.
Reactive glazes, kiln-effect glazes, and glazes containing iron, copper, or other coloring materials are usually more sensitive to firing conditions. Some variation is part of the intended decorative effect and should not automatically be treated as a defect. However, obvious color jumps, poor coordination within a dinnerware set, or results outside the approved sample range require further review.
Buyers should approve a reference sample and define an acceptable color range during sampling. Batch comparisons should be made under natural daylight or a consistent light source. Final acceptance should consider the glaze type, product use, approved sample, and agreed inspection criteria.
